The Craft Beer Thread....

I am going to be in the Bay Area this weekend and I am gonna check out Lagunitas brewery. I am stoked for that. Their Old Gnarly Wine was the best beer at the Portland Holiday Ale Fest this last year.

Nice! Don't forget Russian River Brewing Co. and Bear Republic. They're all clustered around Santa Rosa, right up the 101 from Petaluma (Lagunitas). 15 min drive from Lagunitas to Russian River, then about another 15 min from Russian River to Bear Republic. Make sure you have a DD though! Haha.

Bear Republic didn't have a tasting room or taproom, I thought... Also Lagunitas was closed on Monday when we tried to go there. Jupiter was out of the three beers I wanted to try. We wound up at Pyramid (lame) and then Beer Revolution, which was awesome. We have places like that in Portland as well. Scored a cool Schneider limited edition wheat beer in a big bottle.

Jupiter? As in Jupiter in downtown Berkeley?

A shame about Lagunitas ... their Censored (Kronik) is one of my all time faves. Just got their limited Red ale ... sweet and nice. Of course, their IPA is world class.

Wish I saw your post earlier, would have suggest a few more.

My local World of Beer hosted a Cigar City tap takeover on Tuesday. What a fantastic night. They had 11 beers on draft and 1 cask of Tocobaga Red Ale which was excellent. Here's the list of Cigar City beers that were on tap:

I FINALLY got my hands on some Sierra Nevada Hoptimum. While pricey at $10 for 4, worth every penny! Yum

Good stuff. I might pick up another 4 pack tonight now lol

I finally tried DFH World Wide Stout and Hellhound. Wow, both good and strong.

WWS is so good. I have a bottle of Hellhound still and plan on saving that until I get back home in February.

Had some 3 Floyds Zombie Dust last night. Very good stuff.

Drinking some more Hoptimum. One of the only beers I've had more than a couple of in months. I'm really liking it.

Last night had a Elysian Prometheus IPA from the Manic IPA Series.

Tried this one the other night. 168 IBU's, but was surprisingly good and not as bitter as you would think. The Hoptimum was more of a palate killer than this one. They even have a Triple IPA that they won't list the IBU's on

It was quite hot. I enjoyed the sample I tried, but a whole pint was hard to finish. It would be a good one to share.

Too much craft beer this holiday weekend

New beers tasted the weekend:

Green Flash - Palate Wrecker
Alasken - Amber
Alasken - Kolsch
Magic Hat - Elder Betty

Wasn't a big fan of the Magic Hat, but that's not really a fair judgement as I'm not a fan of wheat beer in general...

The Alasken Amber is definitely a sessionable summer beer... more of that will be bought down the road for sure...

He brought a couple growlers over to my house this weekend and I must say that the beer is quite tasty. I especially recommend the Smoky Scott...quite tasty at 9% ABV!
