Austin City Limits Festival

Do 3 day passes generally sell out before any lineup announcments are made? I'm thinking about going this year, but I'd like to have an idea of the lineup before I buy tickets. Can someone that has been before help me out? Thanks!

yup. they sell out before the lineup is announced. i can tell you that if you don't like the lineup for whatever reason, your 3 day passes are easy to sell.

just got the email today as well....we've been every year since 2007 & it's tempting, but we doubt we'll be living in the state by the time the fest rolls around so we'll probably pass this year & grab one day passes if we are around. if you've never been, it's a blast.....incredibly diverse lineup every single year. if you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Thanks for the responses! I'm sure the lineup will be great, it just feels weird to buy the passes without knowing who I'll be seeing. I'll probably go ahead and grab some next week though and if I don't like the lineup or something comes up I can always sell them.

smart move. not sure who will be headlining this year....i've heard rumors of Soundgarden, Metallica, Radiohead (although they're rumored every year) & Jack White. here's a site that kind of tracks the rumors...it really picks up 2-3 weeks before the lineup is announced.

I've bought 3 day passes and sold them when the lineup is released. Easy to sell but not always easy to get all your money back. I wait until the lineup is released and and then buy a 1 day pass to the best day for me. I'll fill out the weekend with after shows the other two nights.

Chili Peppers have never played it so I keep expecting them to headline. PJ would be a nice surprise :D

We've bought one day passes in the past for the day that looks the best to us. Last year's lineup was terrible and we didn't go at all.

yup...the lineup was weak last year which was a surprise b/c it was their 10th anniversary. we only bought a single day ticket for Sat (MMJ).

who were the other two headliners last year? Wasn't Phish one, or was that the year before?

I could imagine buying a three day pass before any of the artists were announced, but I guess when you have no choice, you do what you have to do

Last year the 3 headliners were Coldplay, Stevie Wonder, and Arcade Fire. Beyond that, the lineup was weak for my taste as well. It's usually a top notch festival with a very diverse lineup.

2009 was killer - PJ, DMB, Kings of Leon (orginally supposed to be the Beastie Boys) headlining. Also saw the Toadies, The Avett Brothers, Ben Harper, Mute Math, Citizen Cope, Daniel Johnston and so many others all on the same bill. One of the best weekends ever.

Hoping for a bigtime announcement for this year - PJ (a stretch for sure, but I can hope), Radiohead (please!), Soundgarden maybe?

I believe the YYY's took the Beastie Boys slot for Austin and Lolla that year not KOL even though both bands played at the same time schedule

Don't they usually announce the line up in mid/ late May?

I could see Van Halen headlining since they don't have an Austin date
So from this board the strong rumors appear to be:

RHCP, VH, and I also could see possibly radiohead.
at least from this thread- they do seem like strong logical possibilities. I would love if PJ headlined a night again though 8-)
