Rock Songs for A Lone Intermediate Guitarist

Postby DriftingByTheStorm » Sun Apr 22, 2012 4:54 pm

Ok.
I'm having a lot of trouble lately racking my brain to find songs that i
a. enjoy
b. can play, but
c. am not bored strumming the same pattern endlessly
d. are coherent FOR ONE LONE GUITARIST TO PLAY
e. ROCK!

Any ideas?
To give you some gauge of where I am at,
I have been playing the following two songs a fair amount recently:
Boston - Feelin' Satisfied
Rush - Limelight

These songs are both VERY recognizable when played by a single guitarist ... have a good tempo, changing parts, that don't get "real boring real quick", and more-or-less challenge me to some extent (rhythms are kinda intricate) ...

ANY IDEAS?

I've played a lot of covers by myself, but most either just don't sound right with one guitarist (notably, some ZZ Top songs, like "Legs",and a lot of later Soundgarden) or just are terribly fucking boring.

I already beat Dance The Night Away to death a while ago ...
I was playing Cowgirl In The Sand earlier today, and that was "ok" ...
but i'm really looking for ROCK AND ROLL ... not "folk" or acoustic down-tempo shit.

And, don't bash me for that Boston track ... i think it's a cult classic.
:D :D :D

I'm not afraid to play hair metal either, so if someone suggested Ratt's Round & Round, I would be all over it (though not the Ryan Adams cover ... rofl).

My guitar playing hubby suggest trying April Wine Don't Push Me Around
I will walk w/my hands bound
I will walk w/my face blood
I will walk w/my shadow flag

Memories back when she was smooth and strong
and waiting for the world to come along...

No one else got nothin to play?

I'm killin this april wine song now.
lol

Anyone who cares, I updated this tab after playing my fingers out on it over the past two days:

------------------------------------- X2
-----------------------------3--3---
-----------------2-----------2--2--
---------0--3-4------0-------------
-------------------------------------
------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------0--------0----------------3-
-----------------2---------------0--------0---------------2-
---------0--3-4--------------------------------0h4p0--0--
-----------------------------3--------2-------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------

Chorus
G/ / /// D / / ///
3------------2-------------------------------------------------------------
3------------3-------------------------------------------------------------
0------------2-------------------------9--7---9--7-----------9--7---9--7
0------------------------------9--7---9--7---9--7----9--7---9--7---9--7
2------------------------------9--7---7------7--------9--7---7------7---
3------------------------------7-----------------------7------------------

G/ / /// D/ / D5///
3------------2--h-3----------------------------------------------------
3------------3--------------------------------------------------------
0------------2---------------------------------------------------------
0--------------------------2--------------------------------------------
2--------------------------2----------------------------------------------
3--------------------------0-----------------------------------------------

There is some bridgey type shit towards the back half that is just a bunch of
barred A chord with a B at the end of the phrase ... repeated twice, i think.

Solo starting at 9 on the G string (ooh yeah, the G string, bitches) .... pinch teh fuck out of the harmonic ... and then do some pentatonic noodling in the key of D i reckon.

Yeah.
I'm gonna have to start gettin in to some thin lizzy.
knew that was coming at some point.
only problem is i'm fairly unfamiliar with their material, which makes it twice as hard to learn.

FYI.
I actually started trying to play Round and Round (RATT) again today ... tried it a year or two ago and it was just way-too-hard.

Almost playable at speed now ... definitely need the Guitar Pro tab to play along to though ...
lol. shit is fun.
