Bob Dylan - where to start?

Postby Thoughts_Arrive » Fri Jun 22, 2012 6:12 pm

I have some songs off the Essential album.
What albums are worth getting?
I like 'Girl from the North Country' because of Eddie's cover 8-)

I like his first few a lot.

Those are really where Dylan started... Just him, a guitar, and harmonica

Nashville Skyline is my favorite Dylan album

Blonde on Blonde, The Times They Are A-Changin', The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan are classics

Desire is fantastic... Blood on the Tracks is amazing

I could talk for days about Dylan's discography, but for now just start with Freewheelin. It's his first classic.

You really could

34 Studio albums.... You just have to listen and find ones you like.

Freewheelin' Bob Dylan is good (Girl from the north country, and Masters of war are on it).
Blonde on Blonde
Blood on the tracks
Oh Mercy (well I enjoy this one).

Yes, and if you want to hear the country version with Johnny Cash of Girl From the North Country, check out Nashville Skyline.

Those are all very good choices (Oh Mercy is a favourite of mine too, love Most Of The Time). But the album I haven't seen mentioned yet is Highway 61 Revisited. It might be his best. I know, a bold claim when there's also Blonde On Blonde and Blood On The Tracks, but it really is that good. Like A Rolling Stone, Ballad Of A Thin Man, Desolation Row are just three of the classics on that record.

I agree with everyone else. A Free Wheelin is my favorite and Highway 61 Revisited is a close second.
