Rolling Stones 50th Anniversary (RS50?)

Postby SatansFuton » Mon Nov 14, 2011 5:14 pm

Eat it Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones are about to turn 50. It would seem they have something up their sleeve. They are getting together this month for jam sessions, possibly for a 50th anniversary tour, maybe a new album, maybe both, who knows. The only thing they're really discussing is the re-issue of Some Girls and the upcoming "Some Girls Live In Texas '78" DVD.

Mick Jagger says there might be a 50th Anniversary tour, but nothing is final, and they don't really know where to start counting from. The first Stones show (as the "Rollin' Stones" without Bill Wyman or Charlie Watts) was in 1962. But the first classic Stones lineup (Jagger, Richards, Jones, Wyman, Watts) did not come into existence until 1963, as well as their first single. So is 1962 the start date or '63? Either way I'm hoping to see a tour and a nice celebration for 50 years of rocking.

By the way, there has been nothing about calling it RS50, I was just dorking around about that.

its from when the band started as a band irrespective of the personnel or when their first single was released.
Now what we have to understand is that this comes from an extremely clever and skillful program, that has manipulated us into ways of thinking that may be contrary to our own interests, but beneficial to the interests of the powers that be... beneficial to the interests of those who control our lives, and tax us until we have hardly a penny left to spend, take our money, and plough it into the creation of huge, armed bureaucracies, which exist to oppress us. We live in a society today where we may not make decisions, to explore our own consciousness. If I am not sovereign over my own consciousness, then I am sovereign over nothing.

No matter how you try to knock the Stones, they're still going. I saw them in 2002 and 2005. Still putting on a great show. I'm in for another show in 2012.

Yeah, when I saw them in '97 it was probably the greatest concert I've ever seen. It didn't matter that they were old, they were giving it their all and making more of an effort than many bands I have seen that were young.

Well, they formed in '90, but the 20th Anniversary festivities have been in 2011. So I was assuming they dated themselves from the release of the first album in '91. Or maybe when they changed their name to Pearl Jam (I think it was early '91) even though they had been playing as a band under a different name. First show was October '90 though.

I think says they've decided 2012 will be the 50th anniversary, and that there's definitely something in the works. I hope they really raid the vault. There are some really great bootlegs of soundboard recordings (so we know they were recording) of shows that if cleaned up would make great vault releases. I would love to see the complete El Mocambo show in Toronto (a few tracks were on Love You Live) released, maybe a complete show from their Australia '73 tour (the Back Strap Jacket bootleg is great) or a compilation of performances from them. Maybe even do something with Brussels Affair (a live album that was shelved and only exists in mediocre bootleg form) as it is arguably the most popular bootleg.

They have so much stuff they can do. But of course a tour is what I want the most, but from the sound of things that's going to happen anyway.

i'm glad they made it 50 years
mick was like 18 or 19 when they started?
PJ members were 26 to 28 when they started
when PJ turns 50 the band members will be pushing 80
of course i'll be dead by then

You don't like Exile On Main Street? And while not my favorites, Some Girls and Tattoo You are often considered great albums, making Rolling Stone Magazine's greatest albums of all-time list. I really like Voodoo Lounge too, and I guess some others did as it won the Grammy for best rock album. And Stripped is a great live album. That's just my opinion though.

But just as some people say the RS haven't done anything worth a damn in decades, there are many people who say Pearl Jam hasn't done anything worth a damn in 15 years. I disagree with that as well.
