I recently took my cat for a somewhat long car ride for the first time since I adopted him. I went on vacation, and drove him 45 minutes to my Grandma's house so she could watch him while I was gone. He freaked the hell out. I had him in a carrier, and he made these horrible wailing noises, so I tried taking him out. He didn't cry as much, but he peed. In between cries, he does this weird panting thing.

Does anyone else have this problem, and do you have any good tips to ease my kitty's travel anxiety?

i took home this one cat i adopted and all she did was whine/cry the whole time in the car. Once I got home and took her home she stopped. Unfortunately the cat didn't work out. She hid for 3 weeks and wasn't really getting along with my other cat so brought her back. Was allowed to bring her back from the adoption agency if anything was wrong within a few weeks.

Isn't there a pill or something that helps cats with car trips? i thought there was. My cats haven't been in the car that long (most about 15 mins.) they are ok when it comes to car trips though.

I've had the cat for about 10 months now, and he's a great cat. This is the first issue. I've never heard him cry like this before. They were deep, throaty sobs. He peed in the car both ways. I assume it was fear. He's due for his first vet appointment with me in about 2 months. I'll probably ask about it then, since he'll definitely have to go for some more car rides within the next year.
