child in time (all deep purple thread)

child in time

only 120mph or better
beer cans everywhere
bag a pot waded up in pocket
matches and papers too

speedometer pegged is all i see
highway lines so dizzying they make me pray to god
allow my life
to go on tomorrow
purple screaming in my ears deep

holy fuck mother of god
inside screaming the fullest
louder somehow than the bore made for fire and ian

love you incredibly
yes it truly was that...
incredible to say the least

endless small town country communities have buried souls one after another
muscle cars & whiskey & beer
muscle cars whiskey and beer
roaring coming down taking for home
good and bad screaming
good and bad screaming
teenagers whitelines oh my god lines and yellow far off someplace else
eyes rolled over

147mph culvert metal dirt action
flesh & bones recoiling in heads split apart fashion throwing up crosses
through glass
through axles
all geared flamming at once like little metallic hummingbirds
taken to the corn and dirt
like diving
for poetry through the ceiling.
