One of the message boards I post at has a thread where people can post what albums they have recently purchased and I thought it may be interesting to do that here. I went out today and bought:

Lou Reed - New York
CSN&Y - Deja Vu
Joni Mitchell - Hejira
The Stooges - s/t
Buffalo Springfield - s/t
Steve Earle - El Corazon
Cat Stevens - Tea for Tillerman
Neil Young - Comes a Time
Belle and Sebastian - Push barman to open old wounds (SE)

Was most likly the largest ammount of new albums I have bought at one time. Well I hope that people post in this thread and we can see what else Pearl Jam fans buy besides bootlegs of Pearl Jam shows (;=

some like having the real thing and the artwork and associated items. others meanwhile prefer just taking other people's work for free and justifying it by rationalising its a big corporsation who deserve to get screwed anyway.

I almost can't believe 'Slaughter.' They embody almost everything that I joke about. Also, how can a band named 'Slaughter' release a ballad like 'Fly to the Angels.' How can a ballad slaughter anything? I mean, I could come up with a joke about what a ballad slaughters, but these guys wouldn't understand, so I want to know what their answer would be.

I've checked it out. I don't have anything to offer to that thread, though, otherwise I'd be all over it. Maybe include 'Lucky' by Radiohead.

haha. I suppose you like what you like, and i suppose youre the bigger man for admitting you like a ballad by a band called "slaughter" perhaps thats what is enjoyable about it.
"hey guys check it out, this is a sweet song by slaughter" thats humurour in itself.

As far as my thread and you not being able to contribute...its because ive pretty much covered everything and its most likely the best mix ever....

to be honest on my first listen it was really only the couple of ballads and panic attack which grabbed me but most of the album i really like now. root of all evil is really good, particulary the melodic vocals over the top of the heavy riffage. good use of past lyrics and melodies from past AA songs in that song (parts of glass prison and this dying soul which you probably noticed). the title track takes too long to get going (probably 4 minutes or so) but after that its really good and it just builds and builds. i think its the best vocal performance from james i've heard other than elements of persuasion.

I haven't heard Elements of Persuasion yet, but from you said it sounds like I should pick it up.

I listened to it again today first thing at work. I actually really like each song or hate it, much like i felt about ToT. Root of All Evil, These Walls, Panic Attack, and Never Enough i love!!! The 70s prog-rock style parts of Octavarium are great as well as the Dave Mustaine imitation towards the end of the song. I didn't like The answer lies within or Sacrificed Sons and I skipped right over I walk beside you.

I also listened to Tyranny of Souls today. It has some great material, but it is only 47 minutes long and a couple of the songs on the second part of the album (Believil, Devil on a Hog) are just plain silly. the pre-chorus for soul intruders ("half-lives, we'll live again") is one of the best musical passages of Bruce's career and reason enough to buy the album.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club- Howl

Sufjan Stevens- Illinoise

I got them all last night. So far i've heard the Wolf Parade twice and i'm enjoying it a lot. I've listend to half of the other two albums. THE Stevens is what i expected it is cool, the BRMC is not quite what i expected. I was hoping for a little more hard rock i guess, but that aside so far it still sounds pretty good. It is very early on in listening to them though my opinions may cange but i'm relatively happy with my purchases.

-Reminds me a lot of "Twin Cinema" more than "Mass Romantic." Pretty good the first couple of times through, a few standouts, I am hoping it grows on me a bit like "Twin Cinema" did. "The Laws Have Changed" is probably the best song they have ever done, though it is a very tough call.

The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin
-Good stuff. Finally picked up an album by them, and it doesn't dissappoint. Nice soft rock stuff. I'm not overly blown away by them right away, but still a good album

The Dismemberment Plan - Change

how is that dinosaur jr.? under rated band...love them.

Bug Completed my Dinosaur JR Collection it was the only album i needed to get and it is really good. Of the three merge reissues it fits in the middle. Not as good as you're living all over me, but better then Dinosaur. J is awesome!
